Welcome To The University of Queensland Karate Club!

Welcome to the University of Queensland Karate Club. The Club was formed in 1978, and has recently become incorporated. It is governed by an elected Management Committee. Training at the club is conducted according to the University calendar. As such, the intensity of training, and timing of gradings and special events allow for general peak academic demand periods. The club is affiliated with The International Goju Karate headed by Tino Ceberano.

The University of Queensland karate-do Club seeks to maintain the original Okinawan tradition of investigation and analysis to discover the depths of martial expression, and foster character development through physical discipline. A vast array of practical techniques are taught to students, from strikes, blocks and kicks, to grappling and groundwork. Traditional Okinawan and Filipino weapons are introduced to senior students. Students have the opportunity to practice their skills through sparring (kumite)
